Plan Your Visit

Everything you need to plan a Lake Powell trip, from boat and park fees and seasons to weather and getting here.

Weather & Seasons

Lake Powell sits in the high desert near Page at about 4,300 feet, and the weather runs to extremes. Summer highs often top 95–100°F from June through August, perfect for getting on the water, while winters bring mild 45–55°F days with chilly nights and big day-to-night temperature swings. Humidity stays low year-round, and the July-to-September monsoon can trigger sudden thunderstorms and flash flooding in the slot canyons — never enter Antelope Canyon when storms threaten.

Getting There

Most visitors drive in to Page, Arizona, the gateway town built in 1957 for Glen Canyon Dam. Page is roughly 2.5 hours from Flagstaff, about 4.5 hours from Las Vegas, and close to 5 hours from both Phoenix and Salt Lake City. Page Municipal Airport (PGA) offers limited service. From Page, Glen Canyon Dam and the Carl Hayden Visitor Center are minutes away, Horseshoe Bend is about 10 minutes south, and Wahweap and Antelope Point marinas are a short drive on the lake.

Best Time to Visit

Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the sweet spot, with warm, comfortable days, calmer water, and thinner crowds than the summer peak. Summer is hot and busy but the best time for houseboating, swimming, and long days on the lake. Winter is quiet and scenic with cool days, cold nights, and low water-recreation activity — better for slot canyons, Horseshoe Bend, and scenic drives than for boating.
